Virtual Reality Goggles. Understanding the Working of VR Googles

Virtual reality goggles (VR Googles) are getting more and more popular these days in the field of games and entertainment. These goggles are light weight and a lot comfortable to wear as opposed to the regular HMD or head mounted display & most of them include a variety of interactive tools.

The virtual goggles (VR Googles) act similar to 3D goggles in regards to displaying 2 pictures. Normal goggles display a solitary picture however virtual and 3D goggles feature polarized lenses that show 2 pictures, 1 for each eye. These pictures given an illusion of depth that’s one of the features of a CAVE environment.

In technical terms, it is known as stereoscopy. The more progressive models of these goggles feature head tracking mechanism which is attached to the desktop that transfers the signals for adjusting the pictures seen by the user as they tend to move across the environment.

Again, this is one major aspect of CAVE virtual environment.

If a user is wearing the goggles for architectural purpose, he/she can see the building at various angles & walk around or through it.

Most of the glasses feature a tracking mechanism that monitors the movements of the user to correct the pictures accordingly. Every time the user moves his/her head, walks towards a specific direction or takes any other action, the sight in front of him/her changes.

The tracking mechanism is linked to the computer that corrects these images allowing the user to see a realistic surrounding & a true depth of perception. It is crucial that the tracking is as accurate as possible otherwise the illusion is likely to break down.

The virtual goggles (VR Googles) allow the user to see 2 distinct pics that his/her brain combines into 1. This provides the illusion for a 3 Dimensional depth. Often, this is accompanied with sound or video clip that further adds to the user experience.

The main objective of a virtual goggle is to present you with a surrounding that seems realistic & behaves identical to a real world. Any latency/latency may cause a disconnection among these 2 & in certain cases, the user may suffer from motion sickness & interrupt his/her virtual experience.
